New York City is a style destination all year long, but during Fashion Week the stakes get even higher. From February 3rd through February 12th of this year, the biggest names in fashion will debut their new and anticipated looks for the seasons ahead for audiences full of fellow fashion icons, models, A-list celebrities and influencers. Though tickets to the most popular shows are usually not available to the public, there are a few events that encourage open attendance. Whether you want to get a taste of fashion week first hand or get a peek at the next trends in fashion, here are a few ways to make the most of this season’s fashion week.
Dress To The Nines
If you plan to attend a fashion week event or two or hang out in an area densely populated with fashion week attendees—know that there will be an inordinate amount of street style photographers around. With a higher-than-usual number of fashionistas and style influencers roaming the streets, Fashion Week is prime time for street style photography. If you want to try and catch the lens of a photographer, or simply put your best-dressed foot forward, make a statement with your style during these two weeks. Bold colors and exaggerated silhouettes in womenswear often make the cut for street style photos, while menswear editors foresee a rise in classic designs including herringbone and houndstooth coats, double-breasted jackets, and leather mules.
Kick-off Fashion Week at Barclays Center on February 3rd with a celebration that will bring together designers, stylists, artists, and influencers. VIP tickets include a club dinner buffet, a three-hour open bar, and music by DJ Ria. A portion of ticket sales will also go towards the Fashion for All Foundation, whose mission is to promote equality and diversity through education and empowerment in the fashion industry.
Get a feel for laid back style with Coastal Fashion Week on February 8th at the Midtown Loft & Terrace. Known for showcasing a unique coastal style at NYFW, this year’s Coastal Fashion Week tickets are available to the public with three different start times. Catch the kids and teen show at 10 AM and 2:30 PM, or the couture evening event at 8 PM.
Want to see a runway show? Then grab tickets to the style showcase of international designer Willfredo Gerardo on February 9th in a landmarked art and performance space in the Lower East Side—just a fifteen-minute drive from The Wagner. Organized by the Art Hearts Foundation, guests will have front row seats to Gerardo’s runway show as well as any additional runway shows taking place in the landmark space that evening.
