Go Beyond Pumpkin Spice at these Battery Park Cafes

Fall’s many associations range from cozy scarves, to farmers markets to “Back to School.” But one of the most iconic moments of fall is walking through New York City with a hot beverage in hand. Fortunately, a new crop of cafes is sprouting up throughout Battery Park that takes coffee beyond any clichéd Starbucks order. Just steps from Wagner Battery Park, these establishments are elevating the coffee experience and offering a mix of innovative and traditional brews with no “pumpkin spice” in sight.

Laughing Man Coffee & Tea: This modern café offers fair trade coffee and teas with an inspiring story to match. The Laughing Man Foundation, founded by Hugh Jackman, supports coffee farming communities by investing in programs that stimulate growth, health and success for coffee farmers and their families. The Battery Park outpost features stellar Colombian and African blends.Inatteso Café Casano: Pretend you’re on the Via Condotti at this sleek Battery Park outpost serving up espresso, cappuccino and Americano with paninis and homemade sweet treats to match. In the cooler months, the hot chocolate is a must-have, while the cafe’s outdoor seating area opens in the spring and summer. It makes for perfect people watching, almost as good as any café in Rome.

Bluestone Lane: This boutique chain of cafes is all the rage in New York City. Its Melbourne-inspired drinks and fare feature the much Instagrammed “Flat White,” while wellness beverages come in the forms of matcha and beet lattes. Order the avocado toast or the beetroot hummus and get your day going Aussie style.

La Colombe: “Damn good coffee” is how people describe the buzzy beverage at this Colombian outpost in Battery Park. The staff is fast and professional, and the pastries from City Bakery are a win/win proposition, no matter which option you choose.
