New Year’s Eve Alternatives To The Classic Bar

Let’s face it. Going to a bar on New Year’s Eve is a bit of a gamble. Between the crowds, the prices and the general levels of inebriation that exist on this festive evening, you may regret even venturing out. Fear not, there is still plenty to do on New Year’s Eve, even if going to a bar isn’t one of them, and the best part is that it’s all just steps from Wagner Battery Park – so no need for an Uber surge. Check them out.

Brooklyn Bridge Walking Tour: Walk your way into the New Year on an incredible 90-minute tour. Beginning promptly at 10:30pm, you’ll get to discover some of New York City’s best sights all along the Brooklyn Bridge area, such as City Hall Park and the World Trade Center Grounds. The walk concludes on the bridge itself to view the fireworks displays at the stroke of midnight.

Sail Around New York Harbor: Don your finest yacht rock formal-wear for a New Year’s celebration on a boat cruising the New York harbor. Depending on the size, each boat is decked out in festive holiday decor and features passed hors d’oeuvres, a fully stocked open bar and live music. You’ll have the best view of the fireworks.

Enjoy a festive dinner: Sometimes the best way to ring in the new year, or just about anything, is with a good old fashioned meal. Fortunately Battery Park offers a wealth of fabulous restaurants, each churning out lavish, celebratory menus. Quality Eats is a new American take on the classics. Giant platters of steaks and fish are meant for sharing among friends, as are the vegetable dishes and nostalgic ice cream cup desserts. To view the fireworks, head to Industry Kitchen, arguably the closest you can get to the seaport without getting in the water. The wood-oven pizza is a great way to greet 2019.

New Year’s Run: OK so this isn’t in Battery Park per se, but the Central Park Midnight Run is a wonderful way to ring in the new year where you won’t hate yourself the next morning. At 10pm, join the fun and celebrate with music and dancing in advance of a four mile run taking off at midnight. Enjoy the fireworks display as you laugh in the face of resolutions for the next day.
