Now shall I walk or shall I ride?
‘Ride,’ Pleasure said;
‘Walk,’ Joy replied.”
— W.H. Davies
Walking in New York is a given. With endless streets and alleys to discover, one of the many joys of exploring the city is exploring it by foot. And while the local area around Battery Park offers countless sights, shops and museums to enjoy on foot, when you’re on a bike the list of potential discoveries grows even longer.
With Wagner Bicycles, guests can take advantage of the signature bicycles and helmets available and experience downtown Manhattan in a whole new light. Here’s how our team recommends spending the day on your own Wagner Bike:
Morning Ride up the Waterfront
After a classic and hearty breakfast at 2West, pick-up your bicycle and helmet at the Front Desk and start your journey at the Battery Park City Esplanade. The tree-lined, waterfront trail will take you straight to TriBeca while you take in the stunning views of Ellis Island, One World Trade and the Statue of Liberty.
Hop on the Hudson River Greenway
If you’re a seasoned rider and want to extend your ride past the Esplanade, take your bike on the Hudson River Greenway, one of the most popular bike paths in the United States. Use the Greenway to take in more views of the Hudson and surrounding attractions up to 59th street.
Grab a Bite at the Merchant’s River House
On your way back, stop for a seaside meal at the nearby favorite Merchants River House (also a great spot for brunch). This casual, river-facing bistro is the perfect way to close out a water themed afternoon. After an active day on your bike, you’ll feel ready to indulge in their fan-favorite fish and chips or ‘Riverside’ burger.
