Your Athletic Itinerary Around Battery Park

Who says you need to hit the gym to get a great workout? Why not hit the streets instead? Battery Park offers fantastic, free amenities like beautiful bike and running paths, the Hudson River and fun obstacle courses throughout the neighborhood, where you can get your heart going without having to pay to sweat. Take advantage of the beautiful spring weather and plan your epic fitness extravaganza all just steps from Wagner Battery Park.

 

Start your day of fitness with a quick caffeine blast at Bluestone Lane, the fantastic Australian coffee purveyor whose Flat White will get your adrenaline going. Lace up and hit your stride with a run at the southernmost tip of Manhattan in Battery Park. Head east, where you’ll score a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty before rounding the edge of the city up the East River. Once there, feast your eyes on the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges and South Street Seaport before going back towards the West Side.

  

Stop and catch your breath at Pier 26 and get ready to grab an oar and hit the water. All spring and summer the Downtown Boathouse offers free kayaking throughout the lower Hudson River. Take in the scenery on the water as you glide around admiring the views. If you don’t quite have your sea legs, the pier offers kayak classes on certain weeknights throughout the summer.

 

If all this cardio has you longing to tone it up, hop on a Citi Bike and head over the Cherry Clinton Playground to hit up the outdoor fitness equipment. This park along the water features a variety of structures to practice your crunches, pull-ups, dips and more. After a few reps, it will be time for a much deserved rest, perhaps in the form of a soft serve cone at Whitehall Pretzel & Ice Cream. Go ahead, you deserve it.
